i feel that im not being treated fairly at work…?
I am a host at a restaurant. A host has a couple of jobs to do. A host either takes names(if were on a wait) rolls silverware, buses tables(cleans), or seats the guests coming into the restaurant. Well were supose to take turns at doing all these jobs. But for some reason im not allowed. I have to do the most streneous work, which is bus the tables. I have to do this every time i work since May of 2009. The thing is, is our Establishmentent has a thing called tip share is where the hosts(me) get a percentage of what our servers make. So if i clean the tables fast enough an hour, in a 5 hour shift i can make an average of 32 dollars. But im working my butt off and sweating while one host is easily rolling silverware, the other showing guests to their seat, and the other writing guests name down. The crazy thing is, they get paid the same thing!!! If i make 32 dollars, so do they. I feel like im being over worked and being paid unfairly. The equal pay act of 1963 states that employees, male and female should be paid equal. This act was made for women’s rights, but its reversed this time. The males do all the work while the females reap the benefits. sorry its long, i was just trying to explain everything. Is there anything i could do? Im not too happy. thanks for any input

Since when did a host or hostess bus a table day in and day out. A host buss a table when the restaurant is extremal busy and the buss-er needs help. speak to your manager and be very careful
don’t sound whiny their are 10 people waiting on you’re JOB

1) How long have you been employed there compared to your co workers?

2) Not to be mean but honestly you are coming across like a whiner. If this is what you do at work that is why they are making you do the work that they do.

Just being honest.

Malcolm sets up a stakeout across from the home of a larger-than-life southern matriarch known as Big Momma, who’s about to be visited by Sherry. It’s a simple plan, but there’s one big problem: Unbeknownst to Sherry, Big Momma has unexpectedly left town. So Malcolm, decides to impersonate the cantankerous Southern granny. Using a few tricks of disguise, he completely transforms himself into Big Momma, even taking on the corpulent septuagenarian’s everyday routine-from cooking soul food to delivering babies to “testifying” at the local church. In the mean time, Malcolm starts falling for Sherry, who may or may not be hiding some stolen cash. Now, Malcolm/Big Momma must somehow find a way to nab his criminal and the girl.

Urgent!Am I being "inappropriate"? unusual situation..?
background:I have a 15 YO son. Im divorced from his biodad after 15 very ugly abusive years together. In that time, however, I have been blessed to become very close to his family. His mother has told me she thinks of me of her daughter still. Also, I found a wonderful man and got remarried last month. And the ex is expecting a baby any day now. Question: ever since the divorce I have still spent holidays with his family. I have no family in the state I’m in.It has never been a problem. But last night my ex & I got in a huge fight where he made it clear that I am no longer welcome with his family.I called his mom and she told me that its coming from the baby momma and that that is not how they feel at all. In the end she told me that she would call me after the ex leaves her house so we can come over.I don’t understand why being there is such a big deal.I don’t really want to hang with my ex either. But my intention has been to show my son that family is family no matter what and that we love him more then we hate each other and can continue to get along. Also please note that him & I were friends, talking on the phone, etc, until he hooked up with this girl who has hated me from day 1 and I have no idea why.
Please remember I have no family so these people have really been my family since I was 19 years old. Also, there was never an issue until I got remarried. The ex’s really like my husband, hes a great guy.

i think you are right in feeling the way you do. unfortunately it is up to his family to decide if they want to tell the new wifey to suck it up and deal with it since it is their house and you are welcome there and if she doesn’t like it she doesn’t have to come, or, to let her have her way and keep you guys separated like kids.

blondie | Dec 24, 2009

If you are truly his friend now then you would not have made a big deal about it and would have went to his parents house later.
ssanchez is Love drunk :) | Dec 24, 2009

She probably hates you because you are the ex- it’s a pretty common thing. I think you should just go over after he leaves, don’t let him ruin your Christmas!
Mia | Dec 24, 2009

She is an evil, jealous b*tch. Feel sorry for your ex having to live with her.

Fact is, though – it is HIS family and you have to respect that. She has more of a right to be there as his current wife than you do as his ex. Of course, your son is still part of that family, but that doesn’t mean YOU need to tag along.

Be glad you are friends with your ex-MIL and do what you can to get along and keep a good relationship with your sons grandparents. Wait until the ex-MIL calls and then go visit.
Mad Mama | Dec 24, 2009

You might wanna have his parents come to your place from now on instead of the other way around. That way neither you or him will meet and the grandparents could see their grandchild. That’s really what they want first and foremost, to see and hang out with their grandchild.
drprabaj1120 | Dec 24, 2009

No, you are not being inappropriate. She (the new girlfriend) is being immature. Its better for your kid (and not to mention their future kid) for everyone to get along. But you may want to give the ex his time with his family, and visit when the 2 of them aren’t around. She may also feel that they won’t accept her if you are still in the picture (plus she is pregnant and probably totally hormonal!)

You shouldn’t have to divorce his family too, and you will always be in their lives since you are the mother of their grandkid. Hope everything works out!
PillowHeadGirl | Dec 24, 2009

She hates you because you were first! I don’t blame you for not wanting to hang with your ex! He sounds like a jerk. But if his family- which is STILL your family, loves you and wants you around (I mean, you were apart of their lives for a long time, too), then go with it. He can’t expect to just break it off with you and you to do the same to the fanily. You didn’t divorce them! Congratulations on the new man! How does he feel about hanging with the other family?
shondak | Dec 24, 2009

You have no idea why? Hello your his ex!! Alot of people are inmature like this and although you may not be attracted towards him she is jealous of the fact that you and him will always have something even if your divorce is final. i think you need to give time and not be pushy that you want to go over because then you are going to start looking like the one who’s inmature. If there wish is for you not to be over and the mother is saying she will call you when they leave just wait. good luck;)
Raquel | Dec 24, 2009

She feels threatened. His family likes you and he gets along with you OK, so she feels threatened.

Just do as his Mom has suggested and go over after she is gone. His Mom is trying to keep the peace. Maybe it will blow over with time.

You are not being inappropriate and it is good for your son to remain involved with extended family. Just work around the drama for now.

Actually I don’t like it
Alexis S | Feb 07, 2010

I’m sort of undecided on this issue. Personally, I like the idea of the act, especially being a veteran myself and thus indirectly being hurt by people who lie about their military service. But on the other hand, I could see freedom of speech issues being an problem here.

Honestly, I would like to see what the Supreme Court says about the act.
Ghost of Tom Joad | Feb 07, 2010

I love it.
Those who have the audacity to declare that they’ve put their life at risk, and received an award for their valor, when they really havent, deserve jailtime.
AFCadetSteel | Feb 07, 2010

I am a disabled vet who doesn’t think there should be a law against them doing this unless they are doing it for gain (IE: to get a job, benefits or something like that) for those using it to impress people or pick up some tail at a pub I think street justice should be applied to them. a year in jail or prison just gives them free food and board on our dime.
froghead | Feb 07, 2010

I support it 100% I also feel the punishment is a little light. I think that if someone wants to claim to be a in-country-combat veteran when they are not force them to become one!!
I hate people who wear portions of the uniform that have never served. Even worse are the people who sell military uniforms to civilains…let them earn it.
Provider Class Member | Feb 07, 2010

Well, as long as they are not using their lie to scam health benefits, money, etc. then I don’t see any Constitutional way to imprison them. I, like all other members of the military, am sworn to support our Constitution. That includes the 1st Amendment.

I also support publicly humiliating these losers. Really think about it. How great would it be to have a website that tracks all the fakers? You could put their pictures up on billboards around the country, have a nice search-able database, list the local fakers in the sunday paper, etc.

You don’t have to be in the military to be a good person, to be brave, to be honorable, etc……but, if you pretend to, you’ve pretty much proved the opposite.

Movies similar to these settings?
I have recently watched The Golden Compass and I have to say that Narnia is better overall.(Except the second one sucked ha ha) Now I’m trying to find some more names to these movies. These are the ones that I have:

The Chronicles of Narnia
The Golden Compass
Stardust
Pan’s Labyrinth
Labyrinth
Goonies
and The never ending story
(Not a fan of the never ending story.. i found it never ending :P )

And I’m also a big Vampire movie fanatic.
(I hate Twilight, so just forget about that.)
I loved, Van Hellsing
Underworld
Lost boys
Interview with a vampire

..Now what are some other good movies that you would swear by? Thanks :)

And please NO twilight answers. Its not my type of movie, and I find them to be whiny teenagers. That should NOT be a vampire movie. it doesn’t make sense.
Thanks :)
yeah.. well it’s not a ‘vampire movie’ I definitely don’t have the tolerance to watch the full movie. I’m not interested in seeing the full thing. I WILL judge it because its just a movie. I don’t have to fall in love with a bunch of actors. I don’t even feel the need to watch the commercials. It looks like it was a waste of money.

*EDIT* They are finally out on DVD! I loved this series of vampire films, very creepy, set in Romania, and Anders Hove makes a brilliant vampire. SUBSPECIES. There are 4 in the series, but I haven’t seen the fourth (yet). I’m putting these in my Netflix queue now that they’re available on DVD. Sweet!

I am *so* not a Twilight fan, but I love vampire films otherwise. You might try VAMPYR, which is very old and nearly silent, though not actually a silent film. NEAR DARK has a nomadic "gang" of vampires that revel in their inhumanity; it’s from the 1980s. THE NIGHT FLIER was an interesting take on the vampire tales; I think it’s from the 1990s. Do not bother with RISE: BLOOD HUNTER – it left me bored and was really muddled, with huge plot holes. SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE was excellent; it was a fictional account of the making of the classic silent vampire flick NOSFERATU, and if you watch Nosferatu afterwards, Shadow of the Vampire gives it a fresh layer. FRIGHT NIGHT is similar to The Lost Boys in that it combines erotic horror with comedy, and it remains one of my favorites. (I’m a Lost Boys fan too, btw. And Interview With the Vampire.)

I know there was a lot of griping about QUEEN OF THE DAMNED and THE LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE, but if you go into them without expecting a masterpiece, the vampire action is quite good. Just don’t compare The Tribe with the original Lost Boys because, naturally, it pales in comparison. No pun intended.

BLADE is quite good, at least the first one. The film BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is very funny, but light on the horror (otherwise, it’s good). Same with ONCE BITTEN and LOVE AT FIRST BITE.

I really liked DRACULA: 2000 for its pure cheesiness factor and buckets o’ blood. And if you don’t mind subtitles, give LET THE RIGHT ONE IN a try (it’s Swedish).

*note* Vampyr is in German, but it has an English language option, I believe. I chose to watch it subtitled so I didn’t have to deal with "dubbing."

Now as for fantasy, try:
LEGEND (not Urban Legend, just Legend)
THE LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM
THE PRINCESS BRIDE
ENCHANTED
THE BEASTMASTER
LADYHAWKE
THE DARK CRYSTAL
THE 13TH WARRIOR
WILLOW
CLASH OF THE TITANS
YOUNG HERCULES
EVER AFTER
DRAGONSLAYER

Hope that helps!

Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God

I’ll also mention "Magic Island", which apparently is remembered fondly by many people who came to Y!A Movies to rediscover the title of this movie. I would say it’s on par with "The Goonies".

VAMPIRES:
Vamp

Vampire Circus
Underworld trilogy
The Brides of Dracula
Count Yorga, Vampire
Interview with the Vampire
Dracula: Prince of Darkness
Captain Kronos: Vampire Killer
Dracula Has Risen from the Grave
House of Frankenstein (TV miniseries)
Queen of the Damned~I definitely agree with this one!
The Little Vampire~This really surprised me; I hadn’t expected it to be so enjoyable and clever.
Dance of the Vampires aka The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck
The Night Stalker (1972)~For many years, this held the record as being the most-watched TV movie in history. This and "The Night Strangler" helped launch "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", a short-lived TV series that inspired a more-recent successful series: "The X-Files".

EDIT: I’m a child of the Fifties, so I grew up with fantasy and horror films. Like the poster following me, I’ve seen all of the movies you list and many more, most of them numerous times. All of the movies I’ve listed, I’ve found worthwhile. I hope you enjoy at least some of them, too.
